Doug Pederson | Coaching Tendencies

From 2013-2019 Pederson has been Offensive Coordinator and Head Coach

• OC: Chiefs (2013-2015)
• HC: Eagles (2016-current)

Why is he labeled as a “RBBC” coach?
In his 7 seasons with NFL play calling experience — Pederson has had

• 3 RBs have 70+ carries in a season 3 times
• 2 RBs have 100+ carries in a season 3 *seperate* times

That’s 6/7 (86%) seasons Pederson has utilized multiple RBs. But did he have a choice?
2013-2015: OC, Chiefs

Pederson was fortunate enough to have Jamaal Charles.

• The only RB Pederson gave 200+ carries, which happened 2013 & 2014
• Averaged 287.50 touches per season

➡️ Knile Davis averaged 115.50 touches a season as the backup
Jamaal Charles: Fantasy Production

• 2013 finished #2 overall & the RB1
• 2014 finished #36 overall & the RB7
2016-2019: HC, Eagles

Pederson had to utilize multiple RBs a season, can you blame him?

• Ryan Matthews, LeGarrette Blount, Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood, Corey Clement, Jay Ajayi, & Josh Adams

Any worthy of 200 let alone 250+ touches?
Eagles RB: Fantasy Production

• Highest Fantasy RB = Darren Sproles (162.5 PPR, RB24) in 2016, benefiting from 52 receptions

Miles Sanders had 218.7 Fantasy points and 229 touches in 2019 but benefited from Howard missing the final 7 games.
Jordan Howard was acquired before the 2019 NFL Draft for a late round pick & on a contract year — a one year rental.

• Eagles selected Miles Sanders 53rd overall

Was this part of the plan for a playoff caliber team? Run down Howard & let their rookie acclimate to the NFL?
‼️Miles Sanders (120.3, SPARQ-x) is a better athlete than Jamaal Charles (111.5)‼️

What is more likely:

1) Utilizing Sanders like Charles & Scott like Davis with sprinkling Clement a few carries
2) Bring in a veteran and letting the superior talent waste away
I am not sold that Pederson is a RBBC type of coach — he has had no choice but to be in Philadelphia.
