Not been present in 'puranay zamany' let me help you understand. The sex ed we have and always have had was hushed tales about sex, primarily highly ill informed. STDs have always been there, mysteries around female sexuality are a result if the lack of education.
Most of the females get what you could term as sex ed is closer to their marriages where I myself have heard girls being tild NOTHING but being told 'do as he tells you, you will understand'. Boys discuss what they are told by the older boys; most of times a bunch of crap
Given little knowledge which is innate in a n organism mixed with tales. Similar tales go round in women. In many many cases women die due to lack of education about their own bodies and how to stay healthy and safe.
