I frequently get asked by UX people who are looking for their first job what they should do.

Getting a first job in any profession is tricky. It’s a game of supply and demand.

Unfortunately, right now the demand for hiring anyone is quite low due to the uncertainty of the pandemic. That makes it especially hard for people looking for their first job.

My biggest advice is to find every opportunity to do UX work and practice your skills. Document what you do. Tell stories about how you overcome challenges.

These are the things that will be attractive to hiring managers once demand increases again.

And it will.
