1/2 Just examining some of the recent @tusla stats with Covid in mind. A downward trend in mandated reports was anticipated but interesting to see a rise in emotional abuse referrals....
2/2 ... Albeit anticipated also, due to low access to view physical abuse or receive sexual abuse disclosures. We see the stats reflecting the decrease in school referrals and increase in Garda notifications to @tusla between March and April (Source: https://www.tusla.ie/uploads/content/Monthly_Service_Performance_and_Activity_Report_April_2020.pdf)
Related to this area, and may be of interest to some is the recent @WorldVision report discussing the long term impact of Covid-19 on children and child protection: https://www.wvi.org/publications/report/coronavirus-health-crisis/covid-19-aftershocks-perfect-storm
Among its findings the report calls on governments and agencies to 1) include child protection as a priority, 2) recognise the child protection services and workforce as essential, and 3) Ensure continued functioning of child-friendly and survivor-centered reporting mechanisms
With adult disclosures also down at this time and a lack of community services available/open to children over the last few months, it is crucial that response and support services are funded and resourced to support what is yet to emerge and be reported
