United finished 3rd despite their 2nd lowest point total in history of Premier League in OGS' 1st proper season in charge. But a closer look will see that United were drawing too many games in the 1st half of the season, games where the xG show they should have won.
OGS brought in James, Maguire, AWB & later on, Bruno & Ighalo. Promoted Greenwood & Brandon Williams. Unlike prev managers (think Di Maria, Depay, Sanchez etc), all the players brought in were utilized and some became anchors like Bruno, AWB & Maguire.
Pattern of play is now clear from OGS with two distinct styles when counter attacking & when vs low blocks team. United not at the level yet to make top teams adapt to them and still struggle to unlock teams who sit back.
Positives:
- strong defensively despite poor GK
- can see improvements in some players -> right coaching
- United DNA -> Academy players, British core, attacking football
- good attitude surrounding club, positive atmosphere even during bad results
Negatives
- not having the right players to play from the back esp GK
- in-game management seems poor
- players & management appears too casual at times
- Ed Woodward
- United fanbase 😂
Next:
- Europa League now like a mini-post/pre season tournament which United should take seriously
- Transfer market is now open. United to back OGS with signings in 4 areas:
> FWR - Sancho
> AM - Grealish/Rodriguez
> DM - Rice/Ndidi
> CB - Ake
- Henderson to come back
