The destruction that Pakistani culture witnessed in the 2000s and early 2010s is hard to put into words.
Risk of terrorism meant concerts, festivals, book fairs were rare. Musicians, writers, book publishers were given threats over their art.
The rise of Klashinkov Culture saw a mass scale radicalization of our youth. Many regions of Pakistan became increasingly conservative and traditionalist, hostile to emerging cultural trends.
By the mid 10s, things were getting better.
The decrease in terrorist activity meant that festivals and concerts were being held again. Platforms like Coke Studio, Nescafe Basement & Battle of Bands spearheaded a new wave of musical innovation. Patari & YouTube provided platforms to emerging musicians and content creators.
A new generation was trying to revive Pakistan's literature scene.

Now, things are changing again. This time for the worse.
The increasing governmental restrictions on freedom of expression will only destroy emerging culture.
TikTok is likely going to be banned. The state is considering ways to restrict the expression of content creators on YouTube. The new law in Punjab places massive restrictions on writers and book publishers. Bans on imported books will also destroy our literary culture.
Our writers and musicians are afraid again. This time, not from terrorists but rather their own state that is cracking down on dissent with an unprecedented brutality.

In the next few years, we will witness the atrophy and decay of what remains of our culture.
