Unnecessary morning thread incoming. I periodically have talks with people suggesting I should increase my personal exposure in order to gain more visibility on social media. My Instagram community is now a little shy of 7K followers, although I rarely share photos of myself.
I realise that this number could easily shoot up with a couple more selfies and bikini pics. I am definitely not a supermodel, but I tend to fall into mostly conventional beauty standards and I have been painfully made aware of that in this business (see pinned thread).
While I will forever be an advocate for women doing whatever they want with their clothes and appearance, I did not choose to grow a community based on my looks. My career path points to intellectual professions, and I would like my public image to reflect that most of all.
There's nothing wrong with flaunting one's appearance (I do that all the time on my other, strictly personal Instagram), and one's value and place in society should not be detemined by the amount of exposed skin on their latest post.
However, while empowering the female form, we should also respect the choice of women preferring a more modest public image, without classifying them as "stuck up". End of rant.
