I think that in the context of general computing, there's no credible alternative to Ethereum's immutability, composability, and unified liquidity. 1/4
Unlike Ethereum, most specialized chains offer no exclusive benefits. A developer considering a specialized chain must also responsibly consider layer2, Eth v2 shards, simply optimizing their regular on-chain contract, or leaning into semi-centralization. 2/4
Some base layers may have credibly exclusive benefits. Given good-enough cross-chain protocols, these might thrive and gracefully join the greater Ethereum ecosystem. Maybe Arweave or Filecoin? 3/4
It blows my mind how much Ethereum has changed this year alone. What will the toolbox look like in 3 years? I think that alternatives to most specialized chains will continue to proliferate on Ethereum, whereas using Ethereum as a base layer will be increasingly mandatory. 4/4
