It is true that some religions believe in one God and some believe in multiple Gods and Some others like Buddhism don’t believe in the idea of God at all. But what is the major concern is not whether God exists or or not. The major concern is how various religions define God.
How God is defined by a particular religion is a sociological question and not a spiritual one. The definition of God tells you what kind of society the religious people wanted to create. So what is the idea of God within Sikhism? How is God defined?
The first thing Sikhism tells you is that God is the ultimate creator. No human power goes beyond it. There is no way to control God it is basically nature. What this does is that you don’t end up believing that the Brahmins can do anything for you or cure your diseases.
The other thing that Guru Granth Sahib tells you is that God is nirvair. It means that this God is not Shri Ram who killed Shambhuka. This God will not even allow the cutring Eklavya’s thumb. This God does not hate anyone.
This God does not like Durga kills Maishasur. So a construction of God that does not hate individuals make you see that hatred in the society towards a particular section is not jot a creation of God. And such hatred can not be religiously legitimised.
The ither thing that Sikhism tells you is that God is like an ocean and you are like waves in it. Guru Ravidas says “Tohi Mohi Mohi tohi Anatar Kaisa kanak katak jal tarang Jaisa”. Then what is the difference that is remained between God and its particles? God & creations are one
What this tells you is that you are no longer bound to pray to God to seek things. All you can do is understand nature work according to it. When you and God form one whole you don’t think of God as separate whom you have to be afraid of.
God in Sikhism is “ajooni” that is without Birth and rebirth it means that God is not Vishnu whi will take avatars and basically work like a Human. God Sikhism says was always there and will always be. There is no way to create God.
It means that God does not come on earth to create or uncreate things. Humans are responsible for the society that they have built. They can unmake the same society.
The other thing in Sikhism is that God does not punish individuals for Good or Bad deeds. There is no Karma in that sense. Your present condition is not because of your past deeds. Your social condition is decided by the society and not by your past deeds.
You alone are responsible for your deeds. Good deeds in the society or love for your fellow beings not essential because God rewards you dor that(God simply does not). Good deeds in the society, Sikhism says are essential on their own accord. They make society liveable.
So what the God of Sikhism makes you believe is that you alone are responsible. God does not do good or bad to you. God works according to nature. You have to understand the laws of nature and work according to it. You can not pray to God to succeed you simply work hard.
That is the God of Sikhism it makes you believe in yourself and the wonders you can do. It makes society egalitarian. It does not allow oppression. It does not punish it does not reward. And most importantly God is not separate from you. You and God form one whole. ☝️
End.
