A bunch of rocks have appeared and people in the crowd are launching them over the fence at the courthouse/officers
I’ve seen this a lot here in Portland: people are claiming to be media, but they’re active participants in what typically turns into an unlawful assembly/riot.
Pretty dangerous for the actual reporters on the ground. What if officers stop taking these labels seriously?

The person with the individual carrying the shield has a small camera but has been chanting along with protesters.
Yesterday, we saw someone with “press” on his helmet up at the fence berating officers.

Update: the person with the camera has an Instagram page for his media. He blurs out the faces to protect the protesters/rioters (which they often try to demand from press)

Current scene:
Officers are back out and pushed back the crowd before quickly going back into the courthouse. The crowd is already returning to the fence
Federal officers just marched out and are now guarding the fence from the other side
More officers are arriving and that flashing light is STRONG. Officers are now standing the line
Officers just started to push everyone back. Multiple fights broke out and multiple people have been detained. Things got aggressive:
During this detainment, another woman got involved and she was also detained.
“I’m a nice young woman from Wisconsin ... you guys are fucking pieces of shit!” she yelled after being taken down by officers.

Officers have pushed back the crowd into the streets. The crowd is coming closer to the line of officers, who are ready to fire crowd control munitions

Just an incredible amount of tear gas out here in Portland
This dude started rounding up all the “press” to go together down the street, where officers had retreated to. I’m not sure how many have legitimate press credentials...
Officers just deployed a TON of flash bangs/tear gas and seem to have fully retreated behind the smoke. Around 2:30 am here in Portland.

It’s been lit on fire. This could get HUGE...there’s a massive amount of garbage on the other side of the fence

Officers are responding to the fires
Some crowd control munitions were fired, forcing the remaining people to retreat into the park. Officers are putting out the fires and standing guard. It’s just before 3:30am.
Overall, officers made pretty quick work of the crowd tonight. The fires have been put out and remaining people are standing back in the park just sort of shouting at officers.
I’m heading back for some writing and rest. A bit before 4am in Portland (an early night!)
