Now that most of the discussion seems to be done, I thought I could post my own thoughts. My main goal in posting that clip was to get a conversation going, I just wanted to be an observer of the discourse before I could share mine because+
+I didn't want my opinion to stop someone from sharing theirs and also wanted to take in as many perspectives as I could before sharing mine. So here it goes:+
*Immaterial of what he said before, if he's being suppressed/oppressed, he's owed support period.*
But this incident is probably one of many examples of how celebrities and "geniuses", many of whom I like as a person, love their works (including ARR) as a consumer have this+
+"wanting to have the cake and eat it" attitude. They do not partake in society and have a well oiled machinery and mechanisms to shield them from society so that it doesn't affect their "art form" but will come to the same society when they face something they need it's help.+
+And when someone of that stature who speaks so less that their every word influences and/or legitimizes a point of view, that ignorance does real damage. People who did not have an opinion or people who put that person above their own opinions tend to take that opinion, atleast+
+for the sake of argument, in an attempt to defend someone they adore. In this particular case, his ignorance is very apparent from the way he says "City la paakurathu illa" (we don't see it in cities) He as an individual, got a break and was able to get work that let him+
+explore, grow and display his talent. Not many people are fortunate enough to get that break even after 20 yrs even if they could afford to fight that long. For someone who's known for his humility that came across as very arrogant.+
+ To put it in context/perspective, add gender to the list of things he said people shouldn't "complain" about and see if you would still find acceptable. That gap is what I'm talking about. I sincerely hope he has re-evaluated his opinion and look forward to more beautiful+
+music and less shielding from the rest of us mere mortals.
+One other thing I wanted to add as an unrelated/unsolicited personal take is that "Art has always been the medium of the oppressed, it is the vanguard of politics and social change where Avant garde ideas and opinions are expressed" when you remove it, when it no longer speaks+
+for the oppressed, art is just entertainment and artists are just entertainers.
