1. On Friday I called out an observed twitter behaviour directed at people on twitter. I named no-one. But I stated that what I see is questionable behaviour. On Saturday I tweeted another academics’ peer reviewed paper and added some quotes. This is common on here.
2. Some respondents have denied or defended the behaviour. Their choice. Some have decried the research. Their choice. Some have diminished the academic process. Some have tried to make this about tribes. Some have flung very personal insults. Some have checked in with me.
3. I try to use social media to bring ideas into the open. I also use it to provoke political thinking about education and society. I am a known critic of this government. My choice. I don’t like the idea of having to pick a side. But that doesn’t mean I’m neutral or psssive.
4. I work in partnerships both in U.K. and internationally with teachers and teacher educators, consultants with colleagues and with my students. I’m aware that the named personal attacks are seen by some of them. I expect this is a deliberate attempt to undermine me.
5. I sometimes (like everyone) regret my choices. But I stand by my values.
6. And yes it is very early. And today I’m on leave. But this thread may have explained why I am wakeful.
7. I apologise to the other education academics and teacher educators for the animosity towards our work that I appear to trigger. And I thank those people who have checked in with me.
