#seattleprotests/ #seattleprotest are often a mess and need protest education that doesn't happen during a scheduled action, a thread...
There are NO leaders, this movement in Seattle has been marred by opps and misguided leaders. We are a group and we work as such. When marching, however, it is wise to have a guiding team of sorts. They should be knowledgeable of the police presence and should act accordingly...
They should not police actions of the group. They should inform the group of plans and risks. They should also listen to the group. They should also ALWAYS keep moving, umless the stop is planned and safe. Just because someone has a megaphone, it does not mean they're in charge..
Car and bike brigade are proven to be essential, never plan an action without them. Medics as well. Speaking of planning.. have one. Do not scare people off by having massive debates on what to do. Plan on gathering and heading out, but do so quickly, the longer the wait, the...
..more likely people are to be in small, easy to disperse/arrest groups, like today. Speaking of today, if you feel an event is sus, but people show up, please show up. You can always move out in a group and avoid a trap. Leaving people to be nabbed is not what we want...
We always hear the term "be water", this means flow together, back and forth. This means be tight, know when to back up and when to push forward. Move slowly, chaos and confusion is dangerous and I definitely understand that's exactly the atmosphere created by SPD and the likes..
It is extremely important not to be dispersed easily. We will and have been hurt, this is dangerous, but we are out here for a reason and we must stand our ground. If you see gaps in a march or line, fill them up. Cover other people with shields and umbrellas, be aware of your...
..surroundings. NEVER RUN. Running can cause tramples and split the group. If they push hard, stand strong, back up slowly with the group. Only run if you are separate and in danger. If the group must disperse, do so in a smart fashion. The group must move to a safe location...
And then disperse into buddies. NEVER call an immediate dispersal, nor listen to one. Dispersal should not happen at the first sight of conflict. Never listen to anyone calling to split the group or do something obviously stupid. Be aware of the terrain. SPD likes us on 11th..
And Pine because they have the high ground and multiple flanking routes. Marching on and protesting at the East Precinct is fine, just be sure to move quick as a group and not get flanked. When SPD does their war crimes, be sure that they don't split the group at intersections...
..this is a tactic they use to break up large groups. Be vocal, yell for people to slow down and follow. When shit "kicks off", get low, take strong steps and do what you must to be safe. Watch your comrades, help them. Know when to hold and when to move, foward or back.
Protest tactics go beyond gear and chants, be aware that SPD coordinates much better than we do and has knowledge of the area as well. If we move cohesively and with a plan, we are likely to get out okay and make a real statement. And most importantly to #seattleprotests...
