So, my 93yro Dad shared a “revelation” he had this morning.

A THREAD:

My Dad turned 18 between VE Day and VJ Day in the summer of ‘45. He might have still been drafted, but he was rated a 4F due to a bad growth on his ankle.

During this time, since age 16, he pursued his degree, specifically in Aeronautical Engineering. Since this a was highly regarded field at that time (still is), he got a good paying job in this industry in Southern California.

He was doing well, living the “high life” (he was not a member of the Church at this time), when during the winding down days of the Korean War, someone, who had “an ax to grind”, from the NC State Draft Board decided to pull my Dad’s file for review.

Long story short, my Dad got drafted for 2 years. For many years, my Dad resented this, because it dramatically altered his life. But a few years later he recognized this was a blessing in disguise.

And this is where his “revelation” comes in:

For those of you who have served a mission for the Church, see if this sounds “familiar”: (remember, my Dad is a nonmember at this point & never got to serve a FT mission when he was mission age)

1) He gets drafted stateside for 2 years, but in a diff. area (Ft. Ord, CA)
6/

2) He is in Basic Training for 12 weeks
3) He is working in a highly disciplined environment quite foreign to what he was doing before.
4) Within 4 months in, he is “given” a “companion” to be with always & love. (He meets and marries my Mom.)
7/

5) He takes several hours a day, when permitted, to study the gospel, more especially the scriptures. He himself is converted and becomes baptized. This is because my Mom introduced the gospel to him.

Hence, our family phrase, “It’s all Grandma’s ‘fault’”😂

My Dad becomes himself one of his “best converts”.

For a long time, my Dad didn’t like that the State Draft Board guy could “mess” up his life. He later realized that had he not had this in his life, he would have still met my Mom, but he would not have been...

...humble enough to accept the gospel. He is now eternally grateful for that experience.

From this story, both he and I realized two things:

a) someone on the “outside”, MIGHT have a “prompting” to influence our lives, which might blind-side us.
10/

b) when our lives sometimes seem to take a “turn for the worse” or feels turned upside down, Heavenly Father MAY be directing that change for the better. You never know.

Have faith, Trust in God, & never give up.
