This week, I got to facilitate an @SGAC workshop on equity in aerospace. One of our biggest takeaways was the importance of role models, so we made a list of some of our favorite role models. This is not a conclusive list and I will follow up with more lists! #AdAstra
Kalpana Chawla was a @NASA astronaut and the first Indian woman to fly in space. While her life was tragically lost on the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, her legacy continues to inspire generations.
@FromCaliToMars emigrated from Colombia to the US at age 17. She worked diligently to put herself through school & pursue her dream of working at NASA. She now works @NASAJPL as the Robotic Arm System domain lead for Mars Perseverance & is an exec team member for @owensfellowship
Ritu Karidhal is an integral part of the @isro team. She has contributed to both the Mangalyaan and Chandrayaan 2 missions, which has earned her the nickname of "Rocket Woman of India."
@audreyisabelpe has already done more in her youth than many people will do in their lifetime. Dissatisfied with the support and role models for women in computer science, she founded @witechorg, a community organization that educates, inspires and empowers youth in technology.
Iroka Chidinma Joy is one of the co-founders of @AerospaceWomen. As one of the first female engineers hired by @NASRDA, Joy recognized the need to reduce the gender gap. She now works as an advocate for women in space emerging nations.
Victoria Garcia is a "proudly deaf" lead systems engineer @NASA_Marshall who helps solve complex problems for @NASA_SLS. Although her hearing impairment has caused challenges in her life, Garcia overcomes barriers to prove that she is capable of everything a hearing man can do.
@SarahAmiri1 when the UAE did not have a space program. However, she still worked diligently and became a leader in the @uaespaceagency. She managed the recent Emirite Mars Mission and continues to serve as a role model for space-dreaming women in the Middle East.
@Timiebi89 is a professor at Arizona State University & an expert in space law. She is a trailblazer in the space sector for emerging space nations and marginalized groups. In fact, our working group was fortunate enough to be able to have her input as a subject matter expert!
