Long post here...and want people to hear this @Patrick_Reusse. I am still mad at the New Ulm city council for caving to some weak pressure to cancel the Minnesota Baseball State Tournament, but they did what they did. I think what makes me more mad is
what that the president of the MBA, Fred Roufs, said directly to me and a group of guys after the meeting. I asked what this meant for New Ulm for the tournament in the future because of all of the hard work that has been done (and money spent by) the New Ulm Baseball Association
Fred stuttered a bit, then said the next few already have bids out, but would likely never come back to a place where the city doesn’t support the baseball association. I said this is a strange situation we are dealing with right now and instead of acknowledging the difficulties
said that the lesson learned here is that the baseball association should have put a person to talk to each city council member to convince them to vote a certain way. We chatted a bit more with much of the same talk about New Ulm never getting the state tournament again. It felt
very dirty and very vindictive to hold this COVID situation over New Ulm’s head like they could control it. Now a city that has a terrific setup and worked very hard is getting shafted unfairly by the MBA board....or at least that is the idea of the president. Just dirty politics
from the MBA. I have played in the MBA for 23 years now. I have moved to Florida and we do not have the same program that Minnesota has....so I appreciate what the organization has done, but this is punishment for a world pandemic. Very disappointed.
Do the right thing, and bring that state tournament back to New Ulm. It is a great place! Right @NUBrewCrew1?
