This place is almost in ruins, is one of the important historical place in Kashmir as said by poet Kalhana in his poetical account of Kashmir history Rajatarangini @RajiIndustani
have been founded by king Pravarsena in the 6th century AD. Its name thus derives from Puranadishthana or 'old town'.
The small stone Shiva temple in the picture dates from the mid-10th century, reputedly erected by a minister named Meru
It was set in a spring-fed tank and its plinth is now submerged. Its interior has one of the finest surviving temple ceilings in Kashmir, consisting of three intersecting squares formed by diagonally placed lintels, the soffit decorated with a lotus
Wangath Temple complex is a group of monuments in Wangath,close to Naranag,in the Ganderbal district of J&k. Current structure was built by Lalitaditya Muktapida of the Karkota dynasty in the 8th century AD
As per the Sanskrit historical chronicle of Kashmir, ‘Rajatarangini’, in
the 3rd century BC, King Ashoka of Maurya dynasty had built the city of Srinagar. In 220 BC, his son King Jaluka had constructed Wangath temples

1st Mosque built on Kali Mandir of Kashmir
Qutab-Ud-din usurped it,1373-89A.D to be converted into a mosque in memory of Mir Syed Ali of Persia who had come to the Valley to establish Islam
Hindu King Pravarsena ll had dedicated the Kali-Shrine to Devi Kali (79-139 A.D.)
Mamaleshwar Temple - Pahalgam
The temple dates back to 400 A.D and is mainly devoted to Lord Shiva. Legends say that it was this blessed site where Lord Ganesha was kept as a door-guard to prevent anyone from getting inyo.Also referred as Mammal temple (Mam Mal- Don’t go)

Forgotten Caves of Bumzu !!
Dedicated to Lord Shiva are the 3 cave temples of Bumzu in 👉 Anantnag,
near Mattan built around 2 CE. .
Among the Oldest temples found in Kashmir,
These caves are located on the banks of River Lidder.

The temples in Avantipur are both situated on the road southeast of Srinagar. 2 temples dating from the 9th century are only 1 km apart.
One is a Shiva Temple, which is renovated & in daily use.
The larger, the Avantiswami Temple is now a ruin. King Awantivarman,
who ruled Kashmir from 853 to 888 AD built both temples and dedicated the larger, the Avantiswami Temple to Bagawan Vishnu. The temples are built by the same materials, a sandstone, which has not proven its durability very well over the centuries
Both temples are highy eroded and not much is left of the very rich carvings, that has been all over the temple surfaces
In 18th century Avantiswami Temple was escavated by British. Some idols were taken to museums in England,few can still be seen in the SPS Museum in Srinagar
Shankaracharya Temple
After decades of darkness, Sankaracharya Temple at phalgam near Srinagar- lit up for Mahashivratri .Shared by an army officer.This is Post revocation of article 370
Temple may date to 200 BC although the present structure probably dates to 9th century AD.
It was visited by Adi Shankara and has ever since been associated with him; this is how the temple got the name Shankaracharya
According to Pandit Anand Koul (1924) the temple was originally built by a Hindu king "Sandiman" who, according to Koul
reigned in Kashmir from 2629 to 2564 BC
It was repaired by King Gopaditya (426–365 BC) & by King Lalitaditya (697–734 A.D.)
Sikandar, the iconoclast did for some reason, destroyed it
Prahaspore [Parihaspore in Kashmiri], according to Rajtarangini,was the capital city founded by Raja Lalitaditya. The capital city was known for the architectural marvels in the form of temples and buildings.2 famous temple,Muktakeshav & Prahaskeshav,
both Vishnu Temples,existed in the city. The Kalash (tomb) of Muktakeshav was silver-plated
