I’m grateful that people want to interview me, or have me on panels. I recall when no one wanted to hear from me about anything. I just wish people wanted to talk to me about craft decisions in stuff I wrote as much as, or more than, publishing’s diversity issues...
For example, in SPIN, I wrote three revolving POVs across two timelines and it was hard. That could be a convo. Or NOT SO PURE AND SIMPLE, the first chapter was a juggling act you may not have noticed, we could talk about that. Rarely get those ?s because...
I help found We Need @diversebooks. In 2014. That excites folks. And I’m proud of the work we’ve done. But I stepped down in 2018, have published three novels since, and yet 80% of the people who reach out to me want the same talking points I’ve been expressing for 6 years
I doubt most of them have ever read a word I wrote. It’s kinda giving me a complex. I THINK I write decent stuff, but so few people have questions about my actual novels and short stories...idk...

Don’t misunderstand...Publishing stil has work to do, and those conversations still need to be had, I only want to talk about my writing a bit more instead of being in your conversation to mostly (or ONLY) recap what you can find on the @diversebooks website.
I mean, yes, you can ask your diversity questions, but ask me book stuff, too. Maybe? Please?
