After having a night to sleep on the whole gigaleak madness, this is how I currently feel.
I always appreciate a deeper look into how games are made. Ever since I was a kid, Beta64 was one of my favorite sites and there's a magical wonder in thinking about all the "what ifs"[1/8]
I remember looking up info about the unicorn room in OoT for hours, and even creating a website that listed all the supposed PokeGods.

I also have published information that has come out via leaks, and I stay up to date with rumors. I would classify myself as a "superfan". [2]
I'm very fortunate to be in a position where I work, full time, talking about video games. There's absolutely no way that I can ignore the information that came out from the gigaleak. Super Donkey, Luigi in Mario 64...that's all history.

...BUT... [3]
...It's going to be super important to contextualize it whenever we talk about it. We need to make it clear that this information was stolen, and uploaded without foresight into the ramifications by the uploader.

We, as fans, have no *right* to this knowledge. Nintendo never owed us this insight. The source code for games they still sell was released, and it's a huge blow to the company. In addition, personal information is included in this release. We don't have a right to this info. [5]
I think there is more stuff that was included in this leak, and we will see more. This is why it's so important that everyone makes it clear that we don't support source code releases, and we don't support the release of personal information. [6]
I hope whoever is leaking this material will practice due diligence in the future, and really consider what exactly they are leaking. I hope they ask themselves if we *really* needed to know some of the information that was included.

So yeah, that's my TED talk. You are obviously welcomed to disagree with me, and I welcome people who have different opinions. Please just don't be a jerk to me, or others who might have different opinions. [Last]
