mention of vomiting and short mention of eating disorder in the last reply.
1. What is emetophobia?

The fear of vomiting, orย emetophobia, is a chronic and disabling condition which is characterized by a tendency to avoid a wide range of situations or activities that might increase the risk of vomiting.
2. How does it show?

People with emetophobia for example avoid parties where a lot of alcohol is served because of the risk of someone vomiting.

They might also avoid any movies, series or clips that show or verbally describe vomiting.
3. What happens if someone with emetophia is triggered by visuals or sounds?

Commonly like many triggers it causes FEAR in the first place e.g panic attacks. The image or sound repeats in their mind and it's the only thing they can focus on.
Since most panic attacks include nausea it's a cycle for them of constantly being triggered.

4. What can we do to help?

If you need to talk about it:
- ask any person if it's okay for them
- put a VISIBLE trigger warning in front of posts, clips, YouTube videos, EPISODES + MOVIES
- if your friend has emetophobia respect it and try to research if movies etc. contain scenes
- don't pressure them to party etc.
5. Is it cureable like other phobias?

Research shows that emetophobia is most likely NOT treatable nor cureable.
6. Good to know!
