Self-hate masqueraded as pious humility is still self-hate.
That isn’t to say we should think we are the best and a good person all the time, but I really feel like some people use Christian humility as a means to justify deep rooted problems with themselves.
I can’t remember which Orthodox monastic or saint said this, but it goes something like don’t fall into despair over your sins. If anyone has any idea who I’m talking about please let me know. I feel like I might have the image of it somewhere.
God obviously wants us to have humility and to be introspective but not to the point of scrupulocity.
