It is a taboo on the naming of the dead and the duration you can't name the person who passed can vary from one community to the next from 12 months in some to many many years in others. Someone with the same name as the deceased may change their name. (...)
In Pitjantjatjara they refer to the deceased person as kunmanara ("What's his name") and in some other communities they will use loan words for words which sound similar to the deceased persons name. (...)
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation recommends that a warning (such as the one above) be shown before TV programmes or movies which may name or show Aboriginal Australians who could have since died. Same as when using recorded voices of someone who may since have died.
