Did you know that Vietnam is currently facing the effects of climate change in the Mekong Delta? This amazing river has dried up this year causing increased environmental concerns among those who depend on it. #CUinTheLab #climatechange [1/]
The Mekong is responsible for 70% of the agricultural production in Vietnam. Decreased levels this year, mean farmers are unable to begin planting crops. Also, the fishing industry is also being affected. #CUinTheLab #climatechange [2/]
Similarly, the biodiversity of the Mekong river is in danger. An increase in the water level signals fish to spawn. Because of the low water levels fish are not spawning. This can be disastrous for fish and other animals that depend on them. [3/] #CUinthelab
Humans are also at risk. Due to decreased water levels, there is now limited access to clean water in the Mekong Delta. And more intense storms in the region can prove fatal for many people. [4/] #CUinTheLab #climatechange
All of this is due to the very real issue of global warming. Vietnam and the Mekong Delta are at risk for these issues as altered El Nino delays integral rains. We must work together to stop climate change before it's too late #CUinTheLab #climatechange [5/]
