On the eve of my wife’s surgery I come back with a message for #edh specific but applies to all #mtg: stop treating each other like an enemy. We expend so much energy defending “takes” & getting mad when someone voices a different opinion.
We are rapid quick to tell someone “it’s a trash card” or question why they aren’t running what’s a “superior” option. Then we bemoan & ridicule folks for enjoying the more optimized/competitive version of our format. STOP. It’s gatekeeping.
The only correct way to play edh is by being welcoming to everyone & assuming positive intent when interacting with each other. With all the talk of being more inclusive, y’all are screaming at each other about playing tutors or suggesting a “competitive” card to a janklord.
Everyone is super worked up cause they world is on fire around us. So everyone take a collective breath, exhale slowly, chill the fuck out & stop judging each other’s playstyle. Worry more about someone’s physical well-being instead of where on the scale their deck lands.
This format is healthy & doing fine. Power creep isn’t ruining it; old school gatekeeping, racism, sexism & bullying will if it continues.
