If I were to recommend a day in St. John's on a budget, I would say go to The Rooms for a coffee. You can get a cup of Jumping Bean at the cafe ($3ish) and enjoy the view in the main room. I used to do it all the time. I've also sat there without buying coffee. 1/ https://twitter.com/mel_jenkins1986/status/1287488530659315719
Then I'd go to The Basilica. (Free) Depending on your budget, @kirstenmorry made a great point about buying fancy ice cream at Needs instead of The Parlour which could be shared with a couple people and cost way less. About $2 each for three people to enjoy in The Park. 2/
As for downtown stores, three places I have never felt judged for browsing are Posie Row, (which has a great card section of you like looking at that stuff) Bees Knees, and The Travel Bug. All are interesting but feel zero pressure to buy. 3/
If you're wondering which restaurant will fill you up for least amount of money, it would be Toslow. Prices have increased with Covid, so I'm always looking for most filling for least cost. Toslow is filling and about $9 for brunch. Baked goods are expensive though! 4/
If you want a baked good, Old Dublin has been parking down there and you can get an incredible cookie for $2! Other things are pricier, but brownie, and cookie are all the best deal for what you pay. 5/
Bannerman Brewery does have great beer, but good to keep in mind that one can ($12) is the equivalent of two glasses ($7.50 each + tip) so you can save about $5-$6 if you buy a can and split it. 6/
The picnic tables at the pedestrian mall are absolutely great for social distancing. Would recommend packing a lunch, buying a can of beer at Bannerman, and enjoying lunch and beer at a picnic table down there. ($6 each.) 7/
A place on a rainy day to enjoy the view is at The Alt. You can get a coffee and sit in the lobby where it's quiet but with a beautiful view. Coffee is about $3. 8/
I know I've mentioned things with money, but there are tips to make it less expensive. I do think they should be talked about more! 9/
