Gradually getting used to Twitter. Found some fab ideas and connections here. Often don’t share my thoughts though but here goes. I’m an academic/teacher educator who got into that because I was a science teacher and wanted an evidence base. When I was teaching I’d have LOVED rED
But it didn’t exist and Debbie Myhill had started the Teacher Ed Research Fellowships at UoE so I went to do a PhD and teach on the PGCE. Always intended to go back into the classroom but loved this job so stayed. And I think (hope) Ed research has value to teachers. It should.
But I also think a lot of work that’s done in depts of education is philosophy, sociology, psychology etc and I see teachers on here citing across that range and I think they’re brilliant - I found it hard to find the time when teaching. I think/hope that part of the value of HEI
Involvement in teacher Ed is/should be developing teachers with broad background in the discipline of education that Uni Ed depts should embody. Critical thinkers etc. It saddens me that many Ts don’t recognise this in their Pgce’s.
I think twitter should aim for promoting critical thinking on Ed but not negative criticism.
