LISTENING EXPERIMENT:

In your mind, play a few measures of a song you know pretty well. Really try and hear the whole performance as close as possible to how you remember it.

Do it right now before you read the next tweet in the thread!
Ok. You’ve heard this snippet of music in your mind’s ear. In all the detail you could muster.

That’s called “audiation” by the way. Pretty cool that we can do that.

This is kind of a buffer tweet to give you one more chance to actually do the thing if you haven’t already
So now what I’m curious to find out is:

When you were listening to this song in your brain, was there any stereo imagery?
I just realized today that when songs pop into my head they are fully mono. Sometimes if I’m really purposefully recalling something with attention-grabbing panned stuff, or working on a tune of my own, there might be spatial detail.
But I guess by default my mind’s ear is like my mind’s eye: just a single one that opens up out of the middle of my forehead while meditating

Thanks for helping me with my science 🤝
