So I made this comment earlier and before I go off to relax a bit, let's talk about some examples of African inspired fantasy. https://twitter.com/aaron_radney/status/1287453324426522628?s=20
This is just a list of books I know that fit the criteria. This is not a judgment of their quality or even whether I enjoyed them or not. Merely to point out the list of African inspired fantasy by Black authors exists and is growing. Let's get started.
The Acacia Series by David Anthony Durham. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/565335.Acacia
Children of Blood and Bone and it's sequel; Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34728667-children-of-blood-and-bone
The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41952489-the-rage-of-dragons
The Wormwood trilogy by Tade Thompson (sci-fi set in Nigeria). https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38362809-rosewater
Changa's Safari by Milton Davis https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10267475-changa-s-safari
The Royal Heretic by @killianfantasy with cover art by someone you might recognize (yes this is a shameless plug but it's the only one in this list). https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54354940-the-royal-heretic
Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7507944-akata-witch
The Dreamblood Duology by NK Jemisen https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/29808317-the-dreamblood-duology
That's just the barest start. I don't claim to be an expert or for this to be an exhaustive list. It's what I could put out without exerting myself quickly. If you have your own feel free to add them in. Just make sure it's Black authors please.
This whole thing got started because I got mad at some non-Black author thinking that this stuff didn't exist and they should write it. -___-
