I keep seeing priests tweeting a version of this and I just don’t think Christians understand how deeply hurtful this false equivalency is to other Black Catholics + Christians, especially given COVID’s racial disparities. https://twitter.com/joeinblack/status/1287340207835095041
It’s like you don’t view us as also part of the Body of Christ. Black families (including mine) are dealing with the fallout of COVID deaths, funeral/hospital policies, AND the stress of racial injustice, the protests, AND a constant drip of terrible white Christian hot takes.
I’ve resisted saying this because I don’t want to scandalize anyone but:
While my faith is fine, I don’t know what’s going to happen to my relationship with the public life of the Church after all of this is said and done.

The pandemic+BLM has been a catalyst for long-held tensions re: my relationship with the institutional Church and I don’t know what any of that means for the future right now. I’m trying to work through it. Again, my actual faith is fine.
Anyway, happy Sunday I guess.
