We welcome the energy and determination of those who are protesting at @Twitter’s lack of action on hate on their platform. Here is a thread from @jemma_levene for those who want to learn more and take action to fight antisemitism and other forms of online hate:
Online hate is a daily reality for too many @Twitter users. Public figures and campaigners, particularly women and those from marginalised communities, regularly receive a torrent of online abuse from high-profile accounts encouraging ‘pile-ons’ by bots and anonymous accounts
Wiley used his platform of >500k followers to launch a stream of antisemitic tweets, employing multiple antisemitic tropes along the way. To learn more about how antisemitism is propagated online, read @CST_UK’s report on antisemitic content on @Twitter https://cst.org.uk/data/file/4/2/Antisemitic%20Content%20on%20Twitter.1519298247.pdf
Twitter has previously taken action to remove high profile nazi accounts. The gradual strengthening of its guidelines is welcome. There must be a rapid response ability to stop high follower accounts from being able to tweet hate unchecked for 48 hours https://www.hopenothate.org.uk/2017/12/19/twitter-bans-nazis-2/
One important step social media companies should continue to take is deplatforming hate figures. It works to limit the promotion of far right and other hateful content but the process to remove these accounts is much too slow https://www.hopenothate.org.uk/2019/10/04/deplatforming-works-lets-get-on-with-it/
We need legislation for online hate. The Online Harms Bill must be a priority for the government to bring forward meaningful consequences for social media companies. A useful guide when considering antisemitism in the Online Harms Bill from @APPGAA: https://antisemitism.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/web-extended-online-harms-briefing-2020.pdf
We can’t just campaign for action against @Facebook, @YouTube, @Instagram and @Twitter. Bespoke platforms like BitChute are playing a huge role in platforming hate and terror and meaningful consequences must be included for platforms such as these https://www.hopenothate.org.uk/2020/07/20/bitchute-platforming-hate-and-terror-in-the-uk/
There are plenty of actions we can all take. It is our duty to report hate crime when we witness it online or in person and to support others by reporting on their behalf. Report Twitter users here: https://help.twitter.com/forms/abusiveuser

We will continue to monitor, educate and take action to tackle the problem of all online hate. @Twitter and others failed to stop a series of antisemitic tweets from Wiley and have a responsibility to demonstrate that racism will not be tolerated on their platforms
