American ideology distilled: Anything that's not about building a business and "driving a Mercedes" gets filed under a "waste of time", even when it's even "fucking fun". Ugh. https://twitter.com/Dexerto/status/1287374826999615488
You're not wasting your time when you play a fun game. Or read an interesting novel. Or go for damn walk without aspirations of becoming the speed walk king of instagram, raking up those endorsement deals, and fucking CRUSHING THE SPEED WALK COMPETITION.
If you want to talk about addiction in American, we should talk about the addiction to money, building a business, driving a fucking Mercedes. Far more lives are ruined chasing that hedonic treadmill than by those who end up playing too many video games.
That does not mean that playing video games for 16 hours a day/every day of the week/every week of the month is healthy either, duh. There are people who get trapped in that. But it's a tiny minority to those trapped chasing this American materialism.
I've been playing video games extensively since age 5. Some of my happiest memories were spent playing games. Some of my closest friendships developed while playing games. And just this morning, our family squad won in Fortnite and it's still the highlight of the day

VIDEO GAMES ARE GOOD. America would be a better place if this obsession with accomplishments, turning your hobby into a franchise, and the evils of "wasting time" took a rest while you grabbed the controller.
