How did we go from trying to coordinate get rid of antisemitism on this site by celebrity figures with large followings, to saying we need to talk how in this specific instance it’s due to racism, to these other Jews are unhinged and untrustworthy (due to politics no less)?

1
What I think is being missed is the influence factor, these are people in all forms of entertainment (music, sports etc.) that children and impressionable young minds are susceptible to in the mainstream. They’re promoting someone who we were always told was fringe.

2
That we don’t need to worry, that it’s the equivalent of David Duke and the mainstream doesn’t take it seriously. Well clearly it’s all boiled over and more influential people than we realized actually take his words seriously.

3
When Chelsea Handler got called out Farrakhan specifically addressed the blowback she received in his speech on July 4th. The antisemitic ideas and rhetoric in his speeches are gaining traction and are not limited to any political field or ethnic identity.

4
Put your ID politics and intersectionality views aside for a moment and realize that the antisemitic views held by Farrakhan are no different than the antisemitic views held by Duke, it just has a different dressing to appeal to their respective audience.

5
The tropes are all the same and they affect *every Jew* regardless of the nuances and identities we have within our own community. The difference is celebrities aren’t uplifting David Duke, they’re uplifting Farrakhan, and not just his persona, but his antisemitic views.

6
While we’re fighting over which one of us has a better grasp to understand their perspective and which particular Jewish community we should be giving a voice to, the antisemitic rhetoric being used to attack us is damaging ALL OF US.

7
Over the process this makes people like me feel like I don’t have a voice. I don’t neatly fit into this insanely frustrating ID politics so people like myself wind up being caught not knowing if it’s my place to even talk.

8
Well I’ve had enough being quiet. It makes no sense to me why skin colour should have any bearing on whether my opinion on the vitriol being spewed towards our community is more or less valid than another Jew when it’s directed towards us as a whole to begin with.

9
Antisemitism doesn’t care for nuance and this is the time where we need to be battling it in unison instead of trying to shift the blame or the discussion elsewhere. There’s no nuanced take to being called imposters and satanic.
