@NEPPFA3 came into existence in April, 2018 - when there were very few commercial pig farmers. Today there are about 500 progressive/commercial pig farmers across the NE under us and our main reason of inception was to make NE “a piggery hub and make quality pork available”
There are two regions where pork gets consumed extensively - South India, where they are almost self reliant on their pork (and quality under check) and North East India where about 50-60% pork is sourced from outside the NE states where there is no monitoring of its quality.
Very recently the centre had allowed the movement of pigs from Haryana and Punjab to NE region to which @neppfa condemned the order and Hon Minister @ATULBORA2 even responded vide a letter to withdraw that order sighting many reasons including #ASF and #Covid19 protocols.
The latest developments show that states supplying pigs (from North India) are forming their “piggery associations” to, maybe, raise their voices and lobby their way into NE region to which we will always remain against till our Governments don’t protect us completely from #ASF
Our existence is based on our extent of pork consumption. If we eat pork then we should be self reliant on it. Our concerns are farmers welfare and, VERY IMPORTANTLY, QUALITY PORK being made available to our NE community which isn’t what gets sent from the North Indian states.
The concerns of the pig farming communities that supply pigs (pork) to NE region starts and ends with supplying pigs only. They are fed on hotel wastes (mostly) and quality of pork is very poor. It’s due to non availability of quality pork that we resort to their supply, sadly.
This is why we ( @NEPPFA3) need the support of our governments to help us become self sustainable and self reliant on “quality” pork in NE. If commercial farming is given a boost by our governments then NE becoming a piggery hub is no difficult dream - it is very much possible!
We hope this message reaches out to all those concerned people. Kindly help us reach them! Thank you.
