1. I have been following this thread and the arguments profered by different people. I guess it is a Zimbabwean thing to compare and trash other qualifications. Competition is good but Zim competition is destructive. Zvakambobvepi nhai? https://twitter.com/memorynguwi/status/1286518521820786695
2. I wonder where this comes from, I think we have this elitistic trait which is very toxic, is it coz we have struggled for a long time so we try to find ways to segregate ourselves? Or is it we are still living in the colonial era thinking of being number 1 in the village?
3. I can tell you, I have seen these arguments so many times even in other fields. Epidemiologists and Biostatisticians with and without Medicine as a first degree are treated differently. The Ministry has its own preferences based on those metrics.
4. Graduates and staff from UZ believe that they are much better than every other Uni in Zim so they look down on what other people have done. Even if you get a PhD from Harvard if your first degree is from CUT, GZU, NUST or MSU, UZ oaks will legit disrespect you.
5. I have since learnt that because the scale of opportunity in Zim is limited so we will fight to the death over crumbs so in order to legitimize segregation we invent rating scales to rank people. We fail to appreciate our differences as sources of strength and not contention.
6. From High Schools to Universities, to professional training bodies, to churches, to neighborhoods, Zimboz are in perpetual contention. Never ending fights and undermining each other. It is like fighting for an air freshner whilst resolutely staying in a sewage pond.
7. So you ask me why we can't unite, politics is the least of our worries, competitive spirit is what has killed us. If you refuse to be ill treated by an employer there are 1000s of Zimboz waiting to take your job, we wont fight for fairness, we just want the air freshner.
8. If you refuse to bribe a policeman to do his job or the passport office guys to do their job, there are thousands willing to pay. We fight for the air freshner whilst standing in sewage. Collaborate, don't compete to your death. Unite, drain the sewage!
