Arsenal FC - 2019/20 Premier League Campaign.
Things started well with two wins against Newcastle (A) and Burnley (H). Where Auba netted twice and Ceballos made one of the best home debuts we have seen in recent times. Santi-esque.
With 2/2 wins, we went to Anfield and lost 3-1.
Pepe showed his class and potential ability to run at a defence, and Torreira's late goal gave us some faith that we might not get ruined 5-1 at Anfield in the future.
Following a very poor start to the NLD, we ended the game 2-2, which lead to a distastrous game at Vicarage Road, where a defensive error from a goal kick lead to Watford clinching another 2-2 draw.
A thrilling match at the Emirates followed, seeing us beat Aston Villa 3-2, despite having 10 men after AMN was sent off, with an Aubameyang free kick to win the game.
Aubameyang came to the rescue again after a McTominay screamer at OT to bring us to a 1-1 draw.
We then beat Bouremouth in a very dull 1-0 victory at home.
This is where the pain began. We then went on from Oct 6th to Dec 9th without a win. With losses at Bramall Lane, the King Power and the Amex. And Draws to Crystal Placae after a controversial winner disallowed, and draws to Southampton and Norwich.
Emery was sacked on 29.11.19.
On 09.12.19, we beat West Ham 1-3 Away, with goals from Pepe, Aubameyang and Martinelli, in what felt like a breath of fresh air under Freddie after a very poor spell of form, and failing to win a game in November.
But this was short lived, as City beat us 0-3 at the Emirates, before Arteta was appointed manager.
December 2019 ended poorly, with draws to Everton and Bouremouth, followed by a painful loss to Chelsea at home, with a later winner putting us in a very poor position going into 2020.
But 2020 saw our fortunes flip.
After beating Manchester United in a very professional performance which ended 2-0, we went on to draw 4 games in a row (CP, SHU, CHE, BUR) - with a lucky 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge with 10 men.
We then went on to win three games in a row:
4-0 vs Newcastle
3-2 vs Everton
1-0 vs West Ham
and were on very good form, despite being knocked of Europe, before the league paused due to the pandemic.
Post restart - we lost two games in a row to Manchester City and Brighton. With David Luiz the subject of lots of criticism after getting sent off.
Following this poor start, we managed to beat Southampton, Norwich and Wolves - with the performance at the Molineux giving fans lots of hope about our future prospects such as AMN and Saka - although our aspirations for Europe were pretty much gone.
We then unfortunately dropped points to Leicester in a draw (1-1) after failing to kill the game. Before losing due to a defensive error in the NLD away. At this stage, the season was truly over.
Arsenal then did the most Arsenal thing possible, beating the Champions Liverpool 2-1 at the Emirates, before losing 1-0 to relegation-battling Aston Villa.
Finally, a 3-2 win at the Emirates saw us relegate Watford - and saw Aubameyang come within 1 goal of the golden boot, scoring 44 league goals in his first two full seasons - but finishing 8th.
Ultimately - it was a very poor season, and our streak of draws and inability to kill off games is what has us so far behind the rest of the pack. Defensive errors were also commonplace and are something that needs to be eradicated next season.
Season Rating: 3/10
