My sister who’s a flight attendant and was in Omaha for the night was arrested last night for going outside her hotel to see the protests. Police arrested 75-80 people over night who were within the protest area. When we attempt to pay her bail, “The system is down”
Even if we were able to pay, she wouldn’t get out for another 10-12 hours because they’re overbooked and still booking protestors from last night. #omahaprotests
We can’t talk to her, she can’t call, she doesn’t know what’s going on or that we’re even aware of her situation and trying to help.. Is this normal to have systems down in jail or is this a way to keep protestors locked up?
She was on FaceTime with her boyfriend when they arrested her and he said she was just showing him what was going on, she was not even protesting.
She was booked at 11:50pm last night, I found out about it this morning. It’s been over 8 hours since first contact with the Douglas County Department of Corrections. Their system is still down as of an hour ago. No other update. Thank you everyone for trying to help!
Update: Their system is still down. Her bail has finally posted. Now we are being told there is an additional 5-12 hour wait before she can leave. Still haven’t been able to communicate with her. Thank you everybody who offered help. My family and I really appreciate it!
Update: She’s been released. Let’s make sure everybody else is released too! Thank you again for all your help!
