i think when discussing celebrity fuckups we should move the conversation away from “should i forgive them” to “what is my relationship to these people? why do i feel i am in a place to either forgive or denounce them?”
idk if this makes sense i just think celebrity fuckups are a great way to analyze your parasocial relationships. bc at the end of the day these are strangers that you do not know - do you forgive overheard conversations on the street? do you denounce your barista?
and like there’s no right answer here btw i’m geniunely just wondering like. why do i personally feel that these people who are virtually strangers must have my personal forgiveness or denouncement. again not saying that i Shouldn’t forgive/denounce just. what does that mean in
the grander scheme of things. what does that say about my relationship to that celebrity, what does that say abt celebrity culture, etc? idk someone tell me if any of this is making sense
btw im not talking about deplatforming, im not saying we shouldnt be mad at celebrities, im specifically talking about moral guilt and trying to conceptualize our rs w celebrities to understand WHY that happens. im opening a conversation i promise im not saying. anything
