Here's my story about me and the uber rich folk and why if ANYONE needs to show some "tax love" to fund covid response, quarantine costs, climate change measures or any/all public services, it's these peeps.
So back in 1999-2000 I worked on the super-yachts in the Mediterranean and it was a super bizarre experience. I was a deckhand/steward/cook and it was my first contact with the uber-rich and my first time witnessing the true extent of human excessiveness.
People would fly food in from around Europe if they couldn't get it locally. Often the yachts were just one of their 5 or so huge houses around the world, and their lives were spent just moving from mansion, to chalet, to yacht, to beach house (another mansion) and back again.
The starting rate for a commission for a modest super yacht was about $40kUSD/wk and then you would tip the crew 10% of that which we would split and make a decent wad of cash per season... but omg did you work for it. You basically had no life. They owned you 24/7.
