Scandal! Whistleblowers! Peril! Knife-edge! Uncontrolled Experiment!

This is what @jk_rowling posted today about trans lives.

It is what has ALWAYS been said about medical transition - which is over 100 years old. 40 years ago a different Christian wrote a 220 pg book... https://twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1287015013513920512
and it was called experimental and dangerous then too. Does anyone else have documentation of routine treatment that has helped millions — be called “experimental” year over years for FOURTY (ONE) YEARS?

Below are excerpts from Janice Raymond’s 1979 feminist bioethicist take:
Janice called trans medicine experimental then and said “a substantial amount of evidence that transsexual hormone therapy and surgery cause cancer” among other fear mongering takes —

this thread is gonna be long ya’ll
But fear mongering has NEVER been limited to the the health of the trans person. (As if you care)

This is never one angle in a transphobes screed.

She predicted half of women would have hysterectomies. Trans treatment was compared to pesticide.
And then there is always the fearmongering of the nefarious replacement of cis women. Today this is refered to in sports, politics, recognitions.

In 1975 — same fears of taking over half the world’s population but even weirder...
“The biological female is no longer necessary”

(there was also an anti IVF, fertility hormones, and surrogacy politic in the 70s for the same reason)

“Free from the chains of menstration and child-bearing, transsexuals are far superior to Gennys [gentic women] in many ways”
Lesbian-Feminist could be “contained and controlled” and “become a harem.”

Lesbian spaces at the time shamed, ecommunicated, and even threatened to kill women revealed to be trans. We would always be “rapists in our mind” not matter how young we transitioned or lived as women
This concept is VERY important because “gender critical” folks will often call all behaviors socialization to negate trans folks while also claiming and owning innate sex based differences when it serves them — these differences exist outside of sociology or examination
Janice Raymond called this female creativity on a profound mythic level. Multicultural, bearing cultural, harmony, and true inventiveness.

She called it — women’s true energy source.

And - Spirit.
When people disparage trans women it is often clinical. GAMETES! Or complete socialization. (Abolish Gender)

But ethereal things so casually discussed or owned are denied to us.

We are without spirit.

Spirit is nearly always binary.
Spirit and energy tied directly to reproductive systems is loved by the patriarchy AND feminists.

This played out beautifully (gut wrenchingly) in @neilhimself’s The Sandman when the moon herself rejected a trans woman because she couldn’t menstruate.

#themooniscancelledparty
We know that cis women who have never menstruated are not denied womanhood - but if you read a lot of anti-trans stuff — they really are.

As if they don’t have the capacity to be mythic. They do not have access to the raw power. Their spirit weeps.

Back to medicine!...
Sorta

A big reason a person today can mirror a 41 YO book is an ignorance of history

It’s easy to have anxieties about routine trans treatments if they’re a shock

The Herstory show said of trans people “I never questioned their absense from my world”
We have history, culture, and elders. We don’t have to wonder what the long term effects of being trans are - because we know.

We bring them groceries. We document and record their stories.

Every anti-trans person denies us our lived experience AND history.
Unless they want to subvert our history.

Janice Raymond compares gay, Jewish sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld’s pioneering work and documentation in the 1930s to Nazis.

(Though the Nazis burned Magnus’ books and papers to erase evidence — Magnus excaped —)
Trans patients of Magnus wore the pink triangle.

Janice uses the historical record of Nazi doctors performing at least one sex change within the camps as proof of the sadistic nature of the surgery - instead of it being a treatment known in that country for a decade — co-opted.
Co-opting an assigning brutality to trans treatment is old and new.

Trans men who opt for top surgery are told they are mutilating their bodies but the same is rarely said of a cis woman who makes a choice around BRCA or a trans woman who grew hormonal breasts but detransitions
Bodily autonomy and agency is only for cis people.

Janice on the one hand paints trans people as infiltrators, rapists, and out to control cis women — but then also argues that we have no agency.

That we are a captive population of the patriarchy. Experimental subjects.
We’ve have seen narratives of trans people being only tragic victims or deranged predators play out since cinema was invented.

https://www.netflix.com/title/81284247

It’s wild to read it in one book by the same person.
Usually suffering in Christianity is virtuous, but not for the tran person.

Janice’s take away is firm. Her call to action is clear.

Which should be my last tweet and all we need to think about...
But she talked about Eunichs!

She talks about how there is no historical evidence of trans folks - which is often leveraged at us. We are a trend.

Beth Eliot was booted from editing Sisters magazine and Magnus’ research was destroyed.

But our history wasn’t erased??
Meanwhile, the words Lesbian and Sapphic come from the same singular person who had like one poem about desiring a woman.

Her work may have been destroyed but queer cis women are literally named for ancient creativity.

To mention them is to invoke history. Which is amazing
Janice only finds historical context for us in eunuchs and ties us to how some eunuchs were used to monitor women.

Those are men. Those are men who were enslaved and had their genitals removed so they couldn’t have sex with enslaved women.

What a twisted comparison.
Meanwhile.
We exist in stone and painted in high places. Things less easy to burn.

The existence of eunuchs betray a sense of understanding about puberty. There are records of androgynes using yams and herbs as estrogen supplements

Hormone therapy is OLD
Intersex people have always existed and were written into ancient laws around inherentence.

To know ancient myth or facts about ambiguity or changing gender it’s so strange to think that trans people are a modern imagination.

Blinded by science
