#BreakTheBlackStigma Out of 13.4% of Black people in the US, 16%+ suffer from mental illness. Black people suffer the most severe stigmas against mental illness due to violent colonialism and racism. trauma generational trauma play a huge role in Black people’s mental health. mental health isnt always/only a chemical problem, it is caused by the violent capitalist colonial systems that exists to eradicate Black and Brown existence. abolish all capitalism and colonialism.
stigma isn’t only “you’re just exaggerating!” it is friends not checking up on their Black friends because they think they can handle everything/are strong Black people. that is a neglectful and dangerous mindset. check up on your Black friends at all times.
support your Black friends unconditionally. Black people have emotions! they go through so much shit and they deserve a community that welcomes them and cares for them always. if anyone who is Black and has suffered MI and the stigma around it, i am here for you. i will listen.
and i will fight every day with you until colonial capitalist racist systems are eradicated and all Black people are liberated. i love you and i am here for you.
