75 years ago today: General Groves drafted the atomic bombing strike order, with Nagasaki added to the list for the first time to add another back-up target after Kyoto had been conclusively removed.
(One of these days, I'd like to see the original (not this microfilm version), to see if the "and Nagasaki" was written in pencil or pen. It doesn't matter much, but it's the kind of thing I wonder...)
On the same day, the injunction against bombing Hiroshima, Kokura, and Niigata was ordered removed (there was never such an order issued for Nagasaki, because it was not added to the target list until this point).
