I know of no discipline other than governing where people believe the new person, with no experience, is qualified to do the complex work. Would you rather the surgeon just out of residency operate on you or the surgeon with years of experience? And yet there is this /1
popular myth that sending new and unseasoned politicians to Washington will make things better. I think people need to start to understand that governing well takes practice and your shiny new representative does NOT deserve to head a committee or be seated on the /2
most prestigious committee. They need to do the grunt work and learn from the seasoned professionals about how to get things done. I’ve seen zero evidence of a newly minted rep or senator being effective at governing. I’m not talking about grandstanding and making /3
speeches. Anybody can jump up and down and yell “Look at me”. I’m talking about the actual work of running the country. And before you all start in with the long term pols and some of the things they do to make it worse I also believe everything has a shelf life /4
and that maybe 30 years is too long to be there but, that doesn’t change my opinion that if you’re new you need to learn and earn. You are not entitled to anything just because you’re popular on twitter or in the media. /fin
