just struck me again that they really didn’t ever have the Resistance/First Order find out their leaders were secretly in love. It’s like if the parents never found out about Romeo and Juliet
the easy-to-understand conflict tensions of Reluctant Allies/Lovers where they team up after Act 1 (but he refuses to turn until the climax in Act 3) with an obvious romance arc (with near-kisses and them talking about it) the whole movie... it would have blown people away
The “fun and games” act 2 would have been like... the conflict of the angst and tension of them being in close proximity, while trying to hide it from suspicious people around them. And the fun of the audience going “holy shit we’ve never seen a dark lord/jedi teamup before”
The midpoint should have been a false kiss between “Kylo Ren” and Rey that they then got right at the climactic moment after he truly transformed. The romance part to this was so easy, what the fuck
the only thing people responded to in that movie was the image of Ben and Rey teaming up. So Imagine if that was the whole plot. Ben and Rey agreeing earlier “we can only do this as a duo” but he still refuses to transform until the right timing moment (act 3). Good Conflict baby
This isn’t even a huge ask for SW—the same amount of audibly acknowledged screentime Han and Leia had in ROTJ. And if you also traded one of the boring 40-minute speeder chases from ROTJ for the fun social conflict of a villain and heroine hiding a love affair? Even better
God, imagine just the cool action scenes they could have done??? Rey and “Kylo” working together against a greater enemy in absolute silent accord like in TLJ, broken by the turbulence of him still thinking he has to be on the dark side?? That’s so hot, I’m sad
The more I learn about how obvious romance structure is, the more appalled I get. Why am I talking about the shitty coward movie, take my phone away
I wanted some funny juxtapositions between “Kylo Ren” and mundane situations, like having to make small talk with Finn and Poe. There’s a reason the Matt the Radar tech skit is like the most popular SNL skit ever
