1. Stone Carving
The Community associated with this art is traditionally Maharanas.
The epitome of Kalingan Stone Carving or Arhitecture can be observed in Sun Temple, Mukteswar Temple and thousands other temples as well as monasteries like that of Lalitagiri and Ratnagiri.
2. Applique Work / Chandua
A vibrant colourful circular patterns famous around the globe and used for festivities, decorative pieces, luxury items and day to day items. Pipili, a town near Bhubaneswar is famous for it.
3. Pattachitra
Done on naturally created canvas and colours
These forms are different from the coloured illustrations on the palm-leaf manuscripts as well as from the rural folk- paintings. Popular in various regions of Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Khurdha districts.
4. Silver Filigree
Otherwise known as Tarakasi, is an art Threading of fine silver granules into large pieces. The art form in Cuttack is used in decorative pieces, jewelry and several other purposes including the frames for Idols during Durga Puja(Popularly known as ChandiMedha)
5. Dhokra / Dhoka Casting
An ancient delicate form of art involving clay and wax casings which can even be traced back to Sindhu Valley Civilisation still thrives in among several nomadic and settler tribes of Odisha.
5. Brass / Bell Metal Work
Abundancy of mineral resources in Odisha has given rise to a variety of metal crafts. Brass (known as Kansa) and Bell metal(known as Pitala) is used to make a variety of things.
6. Wood Craft
Another traditional art form existing since times immemorial.
Used to make idols, decorative pieces, toys, masks etc
7. Terracotta Work
A potter's wheel turns endlessly in patterns to produce a multitude of dolls, toys, decorative pieces and customised objects.
8. Bamboo Craft
Traditional crafts from Bamboo are made by slicing the Bamboo stem into thin flat strips to weave them together.
Used to make Mats, Cots, Chairs , Sofa sets, decorative pieces and even day to day usage goods like Bags or Spoons.
9. Solopith / Cork Craft
Traditionally used to make the Tahias of Lord Jagannath and also for hats, masks and decoratives and sculptures.
10. Sabai Grass work
Popular among tribes several types of grass especially Sabai found in mountain slopes are tethered together to form mats, couches, ropes etc. This is practiced in Mayurbhanj district where this grass is found in abundance.
11. Lacquere Work
Made from scrapped bits of Lac Bug's scarlet and resinous secretions found in different species in the forests of Odisha
Used to make toys, boxes , decoratives etc
The art form is popular in Koraput , Nabrangpur and Mayurbhanj Districts.
12. Horn Craft
Made from the Horns of Bovine animals and used to make Decorative pieces as well as jewellery, combs etc.
Popular in Gajapati district
13. Paper Mache
Started during Mughal period it is an art form which involves paper pulp being moulded into figures and useful items
Odishan form is unique wrt it's Inspiration from Pattachitra in the designs.
Apart from this there are several other Handicrafts like Palm leaf works, Paddy and Straw work, Coconut shell craft, Cow dung art, Betel Nut Craft etc.
