Getting to grips with the energy consumption of my new (used) 24kWh #NissanLeaf and how it impacts predicted range. No surprise that hills make a BIG difference:

10 mile run:
* 300m up = 46 miles
* 300m down = 202 miles
* on the flat = 121 miles

(Listed range: 55-125 miles)
I guess this isn't a surprise but I've never really thought about vehicle energy consumption to this degree until now. When range is so tight it makes you think a lot harder about driving efficiency and ways to conserve energy, which is no bad thing.
Makes we wonder whether we might have spared some transport emissions in the atmosphere had petrol and diesel vehicles been similarly range constrained, for example through smaller tanks and fewer refuelling points
