I can’t even with this week’s #Meghan stuff. Is every royal story going to be spun to criticise her? So many comments about how Beatrice’s small wedding can ‘teach Meghan’ about dignity and true royalty etc etc 1)

Beatrice had a small wedding because 1) Covid restrictions on weddings 2) her father. This is the case. Eugenie’s wedding in 2018 was pretty similar to #HarryandMeghan’s in size. Harry’s actually smaller than other royals in same position - younger sibling of future monarch. 2)

Princess Margaret’s wedding in 1960 was giant, at Westminster Abbey. Not very much smaller than the Queen’s and Margaret was fourth in line when she married (Harry was sixth). Well, we might say, she was the Queen’s only sister. So then what about #Andrew himself? 3)

Prince Andrew’s wedding in 1986 at Westminster Abbey was not much smaller than Charles and Diana’s. Yes there weren’t the heads of state but still huge processions, all pomp on TV. Both had 120 guests back for the wedding breakfast. 4)

Princess Anne’s first wedding was a very large affair at Westminster Abbey. I could go on, further back into the history of royal weddings but ....5)

Basically, Harry and Meghan’s wedding was smaller and more modest than that of younger siblings in similar position before. They made that decision. But they get not praise but endlessly chastised. Now a royal who has to have a tiny wedding - is being used as a stick against them

#Meghan has stepped back from the Royal Family. Our society can’t chase and torment her in the way we did Diana - with racism and hate adding to the misogyny. And yet although they are in LA, still they are criticised for damaging the royals. No. That’s what Andrew is doing.

Harry attacked for making a mild comment that Commonwealth had historic roots in the oppressions of Empire. Sorry, but recognizing this truth is more likely to keep the Commonwealth together - which is what the RF wants. If they’d kept H&M in, would have sent a powerful message.

I mean.... #HarryandMeghan had a smaller wedding than other royal siblings (smaller than Eugenie’s and he’s Harry!). But still they are attacked.

For again and again (cars, mag editing, jets, clothes, baby bump, speaking out and wedding ad infinitum) - everything for which Meghan is criticised, another royal did before and was praised for it.
