Of many lovely replies and comments on @gemmapeters post about @bloodcancer_uk yesterday, this is one I wanted to highlight. Because our fantastic scientists and clinicians always want to help, but dwhat can you do? Individual actions matter, so here's a thought or two. https://twitter.com/horne_gillian/status/1286397564191997953
1. We fund research to help people affected by blood cancer. These are tough times for researchers too and we're doing our utmost to make sure you're OK. If you have a @BloodCancer_Res grant, we're protecting that commitment. Keep doing what you do and look after one another.
2. If you are looking for funding, we know that cuts and uncertainty about timing of grant rounds makes it hard to plan. It's important to talk things through. Our recent webinar was a chance to do that - look out for more over the coming months, or get in touch in the usual way.
3. Your voice is important. Medical research charities are working together to push for a transformative partnership with Government to accelerate sector recovery. @AMRC are leading the effort. Follow them @bloodcancer_uk @BloodCancer_Res and tell @RishiSunak what you think
4. Inform yourself - read all about the @AMRC campaign for a sector deal here https://twitter.com/AMRC/status/1285113952096190464?s=20
5. Make a direct contribution. I can't do better than the words of @gemmapeters "If you care about beating blood cancer and as you read this you’re feeling worried about the future, then now is the time to do whatever you can to help.
8. Or writing to your MP to support our campaigns with people affected by blood cancer - whether that's about support through COVID, delays to diagnosis, emotional and psychological support or our other priorities https://bloodcancer.org.uk/get-involved/support-our-campaigns/
9. Or talk to us about starting or joining a local group. It's hard work, but our dedicated supporters love to hear from researchers, and your skills can make a huge difference. https://bloodcancer.org.uk/get-involved/your-local-fundraising-group/
10. Whatever it is, these are the sorts of individual actions that, together, will add up to the bigger whole that made us the charity we are over the past 60 years, and will get us through this. Thank you!
