It’s amusing watching my Thai friends commentary on racial issues in the US. Coming from one of the most racist, classist, sexist, skin color and nationality judgmental cultures in the world.
While I’ve never seen race ever play a roll in getting a job or opportunity for a qualified person in America, it is something I witness on a regular basis here, even within my own family (who are Thai citizens but are hilltribe and Yunanese)
My brother-in-law hides every aspect of his Lisu culture out of fear is employers will find out. He won’t even be friends on social media with family members because of it.
My wife is an educated nurse who has been denied employment at hospitals for 10 years because she is Lisu.
I have seen my own Thai business owner friends hire purely based on skin color and attractiveness. I’ve never seen misogyny in the US come close to what I see here every single day.
