Today on Facebook: a number of posts about flights coming into Melbourne airport from Guangzhou despite the airport being closed to international passenger arrivals.
The mobile screenshot of the incoming flights leaves off some pretty important context: despite showing different carriers, all the flights arrived at the same gate at the same time this morning. They're one codeshare flight.
The same flight arrived at the same time yesterday and will arrive at the same time tomorrow.
Melbourne Airport posted to Facebook last week about the restrictions (in place until at least August 8). In response to comments, it clarified that planes were still arriving for freight purposes or to be used for outbound commercial flights.
In terms of cargo, Guangzhou Airport is the third busiest in the world. We still need a hell of a lot of stuff made in China.

So, despite the FB panic, probably no passengers on the one international flight arriving into Melbourne today.
That's all pretty simple and boring. But at least one poster seems to think it has something to do with refer to Tianhe-2 "the fastest super computer in the world".
One commenter suggests that if you google "China super computer" you will get your answer to why so many flights (1) are still arriving from China.

I'm yet to figure out what Tianhe-2 has to do with anything. I'd love to hear any ideas.
