How actually good was a prime Charles Barkley in the NBA? (thread):
Barkley entered his prime in his 3rd NBA season with the 76ers, where he grabbed his first All-Star appearance putting up:

In the 1987 Playoffs:

76ers lost in the first round to the 4 seed Milwaukee Bucks in a 3-2 series.
1987-88 Season:

28.3 PPG 11.9 RPG 3.2 APG 1.3 SPG 1.3 BPG
27.6 PER 66.5 TS% .253 WS/48 7.5 VORP

All-NBA 1st Team, 4th in MVP voting, TS% Leader.

76ers missed the playoffs this season by 2 games.
1988-89 Season:

1989 Playoffs:

The 76ers were swept in the first round by the 2 seed New York Knicks.
1989-90 NBA Season:

25.2 PPG 11.5 RPG 3.9 APG 1.9 SPG 0.6 BPG
27.1 PER 66.1 TS% .269 WS/48 8.0 VORP

All-NBA 1st Team, 2nd in MVP voting, TS% Leader.
1990 Playoffs:

24.7 PPG 15.5 RPG 4.3 APG 0.8 SPG 0.7 BPG
25.0 PER 58.9 TS% .176 WS/48

The 76ers lost in the 2nd round 4-1 to the Chicago Bulls, despite Barkley scoring and rebounding at a high level.
1990-91 NBA Season:

27.6 PPG 10.1 RPG 4.2 APG 1.6 SPG 0.5 BPG
28.9 PER 63.5 TS% .258 WS/48 7.0 VORP

All-NBA 1st Team, 4th in MVP voting.
1991 NBA Playoffs:

24.9 PPG 10.5 RPG 6.0 APG 1.9 SPG 0.4 BPG
26.8 PER 63 TS% .217 WS/48

The 76ers swept the first round but again fell short at the hands of the eventual champion Chicago Bulls.
1991-92 NBA Season:

23.1 PPG 11.1 RPG 4.1 APG 1.8 SPG 0.6 BPG
24.5 PER 61.2 TS% .205 WS/48 6.1 VORP

All-NBA 2nd Team.

The 76ers again missed the playoffs by only 3 games, and this was the last season Barkley would ever play in a 76ers uniform.
Before the start of the 1992-93 Season, Barkley was traded to the Phoenix Suns, and this would be the best season of his entire career:

25.6 PPG 12.2 RPG 5.1 APG 1.6 SPG 1 BPG
25.9 PER 59.6 TS% .242 WS/48 7.1 VORP

NBA MVP, All-NBA 1st Team.
In the 1993 Playoffs, Barkley and the Suns made an amazing run:

26.6 PPG 13.6 RPG 4.3 APG 1.6 SPG 1 BPG
24.9 PER 55.2 TS% .215 WS/48

The Suns went 13-11 in the playoffs and made it to the NBA finals before losing to the Chicago Bulls 4-2.
This would mark the end of Barkley's statistical peak, but he would still go on to add 4 more all-star appearances, 3 more All-NBA teams (2 2nd, 1 3rd), and finish top 10 in MVP voting twice.
Charles Barkley throughout the regular season during his 7 year peak:

25.5 PPG 12 RPG 4.2 APG 1.7 SPG 0.9 BPG
26.6 PER 64 TS% .241 WS/48

7x All-Star, 7x All-NBA (5 1st, 2 2nd), 1x Rebound Champ, 4x TS% Leader, 1x MVP, finished top 6 in MVP voting 6 times.
Charles Barkley throughout the playoffs during his 7 year peak:

25.6 PPG 12.8 RPG 4.5 APG 1.4 SPG 0.9 BPG
24.2 PER 62.2 TS% .194 WS/48

1 Finals Appearance, 1x TS% leader, 1x WS leader.
Using Barkley's stats we can see that he was a good scorer during his prime as well as an elite rebounder, an underrated passer and defender, as a 6'6 Power Forward.

He brought home many All-NBA and All-Star honors and will always go down as one of the best players of the 90s.
